Culture in Kenya

When I was in a National Park in Nairobi I met a man who told me little bit about the culture in this fantastic country, Kenya. The man, with name, Habibo was guide in the National Park, so he was very taken off animal. I was little more interested in the generally culture and eventually Habibo understand that. First I asked him little bit about food:

“What do you think is the most normal food to eat here in Kenya?”
-“In Kenya, the most normal food is meat and beans, but as you know it is a lot of destitution here so the most poorest people eat what they get.”
“But do you have any traditional dish or something?”
-“Yes we have! One traditional dish is grilled goat meat called nyama choma. That’s my favorite!”
“Did people try to get food to a cheap price?”
-Yes, of course we do! It is a lot of people in this country that not have money for food.”
“What are you drinking here in Kenya?”
-“We love bear and almost everybody drinks it. It starts to be a lot of bear brewery in the country…”

As well I also asked him little bit about the people who live in the country and theirs living conditions. Habibo said:

-“It is around 70 different descended in Kenya, but now the descended has a lot of lesser meaning. People see more at descended as an identity and personality character, descended is not something we use daily since it was before.”

We didn’t have time for more talking, Habibo have to go back to the animals in the park. But I had learned something about culture in Kenya so I was happy!

Money money money...

The Kikuyu

The Kikuyu came into Kenya during the Bantu migration and nowadays make up Kenya's most populous ethnic group (7.5 million).
Traditionally, the Kikuyu are farmers; their homelands in the foothills of Mount Kenya are some of the most intensively farmed areas of the country. Many of Kikuyu have also become involved in business and politics (the first president of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta, was actually a Kikuyu)
